Too much procrastination!

In life we want to have certain characteristics of our parents, we want the beautiful hair from mom, the tall slender figure from dad, dad's funny humor, mom's sense of adventure, etc. But sometimes we are stuck with the characteristics of one parent or the other that we would rather not want, and sometimes have to struggle to not have them! My characteristic of concern today is, from my sweet momma, her PROCRASTINATION! I've always had this characteristic of hers, and have decided that It's not a good one to have, and with her living with me it makes my procrastination even worse. I started noticing that I had gotten this really bad trait a few years ago, I made shopping cart covers for babies and sold them, they were special order and I had a 10 business day policy. Well, you guessed it, I was always scrambling on day 10 to get it done and get it mailed out, always. I don't think I ever made one early. From that time, I've noticed more and more how much I procratinate, we have our house on the market and you can bet when we showed it on Saturday I was up till 2am getting things in order for the showing. Now, I am trying to lose weight for my 10th anniversary coming up in 2 months, and of course the procrastination kicks in, oh I can eat that, I'll just walk more tomorrow, yep, that extra walking never happens!

So, with all that being said, I have decided that I am going to try my best to do things as soon as they need to be done, exercising, eating healthy, cleaning the house, washing dishes as soon as dinner is over and not the next morning, having Madison do her school work every day and not trying to scramble at the end of the week to catch up what we have put off. As a very wise President said, "Don't put off until tomorrow, what can be done today" ~ Thomas Jefferson. So this is going to be my new Motto. I am going to print this out in bold letters and post it on my fridge to remind me daily, if there is something to be done, to get it done!

I have lots of traits that I got from my mom, and my dad (who passed away of cancer when I was 6). I didn't get to know my dad, but I have what my mom calls a bad characteristic of his, pacing the floors when I'm mad, happy, sad, nervous, etc. I don't call it a bad characteristic, I do it DAILY many times a day actually. Because I don't remember my dad I'm happy to carry on this trait of his, and now Madison does it as well. If she is on the phone she paces back and forth in the house the entire time she is talking, so I can let her know that she got that from her Grandpa Howard, and he does live in her!

With that being said, say it with me "Don't put off until tomorrow, what can be done today"!!
